A group of researchers from the Universita Politecnica delle Marche in Italy has affirmed after a study conducted recently that the effect of ultraviolet radiation can be minimized with the use of strawberry extract.

It is being said that the extract of strawberry if reaches skin cell cultures can prove extremely beneficial for the same. The statement is being made on the evidence provided by a trial. Human skin cell cultures were made by the team that to which strawberry extract was added in different amounts.

While to some 0.05 mg was added, some were provided with 0.25 mg/ml or 0.5 ml, as per the findings. Exposing the samples following the same to the French Riviera’s midday summer sun for approximately 90 minutes, it was found that photoprotective properties were shown, particularly those having 0.5 mg/ml concentration.

The team has told that the fibroblasts also showed increased cell survival as well as cut damage to the DNA. It is being hoped that photoprotective cream can be developed with the aid of the study.

"These aspects are of great importance as they provide protection for cell lines subject to conditions that can provoke cancer and other skin-related inflammatory and degenerative illnesses”, said author Maurizio Battino.
