Appeals Made Against Orcas Being Considered As Endangered Subspecies

Recent reports suggest that Property rights advocates and California farmers have appealed the government this Thursday to remove Pacific Northwest orcas from the category of Endangered Species Act, stating that the group of whales is not a subspecies.

Damien M. Schiff, an attorney for the Sacramento, asserted that the government has considered orcas as a sub-species of whales. It was further asserted that in order to secure and protect a species; government cannot develop a new sub-species.

The appeal has been drafted at the U. S. Department of Commerce and the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration. It has been recovered that the federal officials will be departed in total 3 months to go through the reports of the petition filed.

Findings of the report suggest that it even includes scientific evidences highlighted by law firm, which proves that these orcas are similar to the orcas around the globe.

Previously in 2006 even, a petition was filed by the same group but they failed.

The Center for Whale Research explains: “The orcas in question live in Puget Sound and nearby Canadian waters. They were listed as endangered in 2005. There are about 85 whales divided into three different pods”.

The farmers have to suffer as water supplies are restricted to protect salmon, which are a food of the orcas.
