A four-month-old black baby rhino managed to get a second chance at life. The fat-buttocked, four-month-old male rhino is being given the best possible care at the orphanage at the Entabeni Safari Conservancy. It is known that Entabeni is among the world's special orphanages aimed for rhino calves whose parents don’t have their horns.
Though, there is no name given to the resident. "He'll want to feel your hair and your face with his lip and he wants to get into everything he's not allowed to. He's just like what you'd imagine a little four month old to be," said Alana Russell, who is among the five caregivers of the calf and an American conservation student.
If records are to be referred to, after some 448 rhinos were killed last year, there were some 300 rhinos poached across South Africa from the start of the year, thereby making it all the more imperative for some solution to be developed for sick calves.
As far as this orphanage is concerned, it has got four high-care rooms and one intensive care chamber to make sure that best possible care is being given to those calves who are in need. With black market demand for rhino horn rising, it seems to be tough ride for authorities concerned.
