There seems to be an outbreak of legionella disease in UK. Scotland’s top Virus experts on their high to prevent further such outbreaks in the country. After the death of three men, suspected to be hit by this lethal disease, a public inquiry has been called upon to investigate the cleanliness that is being maintained in the cooling towers of the country.

According to Professor Hugh Pennington, it has been come into notice that these cooling towers are in general inspected once in a decade. And this is something that is actually responsible for causing this outbreak of legionella. And if no effective action is taken about this, then many more such outbreaks would take place in future.

He added: “Legionnaires’ disease is one of the nastiest and most lethal of infectious diseases in the UK. But it is utterly preventable. Something went badly wrong in Edinburgh. A public inquiry is the most effective way to establish the facts around what went wrong and to prevent yet more outbreaks”.

It was in May, when this outbreak was noticed in the south-west of Edinburgh. Around 100 plus people were found contracted this virus. The main cause of it is still not known and, therefore, the investigations are going on to find the same.
