Extraordinary Burial Discovered From Mexico City’s Templo Mayor

This time, Mexican archaeologists have discovered something extraordinary from Mexico City's Templo Mayor. A young woman’s skeleton has been found piled up with 1,789 human bones.

The human burial has been discovered from the most sacred location of Aztec capital. At one of the corners of the plaza, are remnants of what would have been considered during that time as sacred tree. Near to this site the burial has been found, after digging five meters (15 feet) below the surface.

The National Institute of Anthropology and History asserted that the discovery of the burial is first of its kind. They said, “Aztecs were not known to use mass sacrifice or the reburial of bones as the customary ways to accompany the interment of a member of the ruling class”.

University of Florida archaeologist Susan Gillespie, who was not a part of the discovery project, asserted that the discovery is definitely exceptional as per the findings of the Aztec culture.

She further described that when Mayas buried sacrificed people with those of royal burials, they typically buried the complete body, instead of burring diverse bone types, as what has been administered in this case. Moreover, in special cases, the Aztecs, used to cremate the members during 1325 to 1521.
