US helping Asia in Reducing the Population of Sharks

Recently, an environmentalist group has accused that endangered species of sharks are being served in the restaurants of the US. According to the Pew Environment Group, the shark fin soup is being served in 14 cities of the US.

Before accusing the restaurants of the US, the Group conducted a DNA test over the sharks. About 32 samples were collected from the restaurants. Following the findings of the researchers, it now has been confirmed that Asia is not the only culprit. The US is also contributing in the reduced population of sharks.

The Manager of the Pew Environment Group, Liz Karan said, “Americans who eat the shark’s fin soup may be consuming an endangered species without even knowing it….this is bad for sharks”. It is believed that about one third of the species of sharks are endangered.

There is need to reduce the activities of man in the oceans to save the lives of the sharks. The name of the restaurants from where the researchers gathered the samples of the soup has not been made public. However, these restaurants will remain in check until and unless they ensure that they will not serve shark fin soups.
