Severely Injured Sea Otter Dies

A severely injured otter, which was being rescued from a beach of Washington State, has died in Marine Mammal Rescue Centre in Vancouver, the place where it was taken after the rescue operation.

Veterinarians at the centre said that they had tried each and every method, so that they could save the otter, but they somehow knew that chances of its survival were quite less. "We knew that the risks were high when the sea otter was rescued in poor body condition, including several significant injuries and obvious metabolic compromise”, said Dr. Martin Haulena, who is an aquarium veterinarian.

The otter died on Thursday, after its liver stopped functioning and it suffered from cerebral edema, which means water accumulation in brain. Martin said that they were quite sad when it died, as they were having hopes that they would be able to help the animal relive.

They cannot say that medical care was not proper, as they had feelings attached with the injured otter and provided it the best medical care, they could have provided.

It could not be known that what caused injuries to otter, but its injuries have significantly reduced its appetite, which did not let it regain strength.
