It seems that Dr. Gene Helmick-Richardson is not at all in favor of using aerial spraying methodology to fight the mosquitoes that are quickly spreading West Nile Virus in the region. Rather he insists that the method should be kept as the last resort as it most often misses its target and the comeback of the mosquitoes is more dangerous and fatal.
In his recent statement, Dr. Richardson has openly challenged the decision of aerial spraying from Dallas County in an effort to combat the mosquitoes spreading West Nile virus. Mr. Helmick-Richardson, an entomologist, explained that aerial spraying is basically a rain of poison, which hardly kills any mosquitoes rather pamper their return, and that too in more dangerous form.
"We know they are going to cause the death of millions of innocent insects that didn't do anything", he said, warning that the mosquitoes that survive the bombardment will come back... but stronger.
But similar are not the beliefs of the local and state health officials because they are more concerned with the so-called historic West Nile outbreak. They explained their side by urging that the West Nile Virus is quickly spreading and they fear higher chances of public health emergency situation in Dallas County with nine deaths and 172 more confirmed cases of West Nile virus in Dallas County.
