A New Family of Spiders Discovered In Siskiyhou Mountains

A group of researchers has emerged with a latest discovery that is of a new family of spiders. The new species has been found in an Oregon cave, located near to Grants Pass in the Siskiyhou Mountains.

The researchers suggest that the class is different from the one already known, their claws make them stand out, and hence they have been dubbed Cave Robber or trogloraptor marchingtoni. Trogloraptor marchingtoni is a Latin name, in which Trogloraptor stands for cave robber and marchingtoni symbolizes Marching, the group who discovered the new family.

Further, they explained that the species has never been seen before. Samples of the spider were initially sent to a lab. The scientists at the lab developed conditions, which suited their habitat and hence, examined them. But the spiders didn’t eat the insects provided to them and died.

Two reasons have been explained behind the deaths. Foremost being that the diet fed was not what the spiders normally ate and secondly, the habitat created for them was smaller than their natural habitats. The spiders didn’t get enough of free space to move around.

It has been concluded that spider is one of its kind; it’s a new species, belonging to a new genus and a new family.
