A recent survey has found that school going children drink and take drug in the premises of schools. The authorities are unaware of the growing ill habit of the students. It has been found that about one in nine students are having drinking and drug problems.

As students don’t find any place safe to drink and smoke, they do it in the premises of the schools. The survey was conducted by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse of Columbia University.

During the survey, it also came to light that almost all the students were aware of their classmates’ habit of taking drugs and alcohol. Besides, most of the students are aware from where they can get drugs.

The illegal drug, marijuana, was found most popular and easy to get drug in the schools. It has been found that peer pressure has forced students to take drugs. The survey has blamed social networking sites for the sorry state of students. The advertisement of alcohol and drug on the pages of social networking sites encourage students to take drugs, believe researchers. Parents and teachers have been advised to speak up with the students so that the menace of drinking and drug abuse could be addressed to.
