US Food and Drug Administration asserted an Indiana farm has been found to have connection with recent salmonella outbreak. Cantaloupe, orange-fleshed melons, has been suspected to be the source of the outbreak. FDA affirmed that an operation has been launched in the regards.
The melons have been reported to have restricted from being sold. FDA believes that Chamberlain Farms of Owensville might be the cause of the outbreak, which has affected several people in different states.
Figures released by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention highlighted that across 21 states, 178 have contracted the infection. Nevertheless, two of have reported to have died and 62 others have been admitted in hospitals.
Earlier recall for the distribution of the cantaloupe had been accepted by the Chamberlain Farms. However, FDA asserted that formally imposing restrictions on the use of the food products will lay more emphasis and a better impact. At the same time, it will help spread awareness in concerns of the product, which is being suspected as the cause for the salmonella food poisoning.
FDA officials said, “They were pressurized by food safety advocates to release the name of the grower that now has voluntarily recalled the rest of this year’s cantaloupe crop because of detection of a strain”.
