Red Vine Black Licorice is being asked to be returned to American Licorice Co., the maker of Red Vines, by each and every individual in America, a recent report has unfolded, since fears have been raised by the California Department of Public Health that the same are carrying lead in superfluous amounts.
The investigating group has claimed that the product contains almost double the amount than that actually recommended as safe for children. It has been told that children below the age of six years are however suggested to consume not more than 6 micrograms a day. The packages on recall comprise around 13.2 micrograms per serving i. e. 0.33 parts a million of lead.
In particular, the candy’s 16-ounce bags with labels “Best before 020413” are affected, the report finds. Thus, the group has been asking people not to consume the candy and especially keep children away from it since even low lead content can hamper their IQ or academic achievement.
The company now is apologizing to all consumers asking them to call its helpline. Also, it says, “We are taking every possible precautionary step to make this situation right, including working diligently with our retailers and public health officials to keep all consumers possibly safe”.
