Obese Teens at High Risk of Being Diagnosed With Gallstones

Findings in a recent research have linked obesity with development of gallstones. Researchers have warned that those of the adolescents falling in the category of extremely obese or obese are at high risk of being diagnosed with gallstones.

Doctors suggest that earlier it was hard to come across such conditions in case of young people. However, with changing trends and lifestyles, the number of cases of such diseases is increasing in the age group.

It is shocking to come across teens exhibiting diseases, commonly diagnosed only in case of adults.

The research conducted by leading American health care provider Kaiser Permanente, took into consideration occurrence of the condition amongst 500,000 California children aged between 10 and 19.

The research subdivided the categories under: extremely obese, obese and healthy-weight.

In case of females, it was suggested that those of who falling in the category of extremely obese were eight times higher the risk of developing the disease and in case of obese, the risk was estimated to be six time more, in comparison to their counterparts, who were healthy-weight.

However, in case of boys, the case was a bit different, extremely obese were three times more likely to be diagnosed and in case of obese, it was double, in comparison to others.
