Foxconn’s Move to Cut Working Hours Works Other Way Round for It

Foxconn had vowed to the Fair Labor Association, a Washington-based labor group, early this year after it questioned the working conditions it provides to employees in China that it would bring significant improvements in the working environment, as per a recent report.

While there is no doubt that the company has delivered its promise up to a large extent, the move in favour of workers has become a reason of its own loss. It is being said that the introduction of cuts in working hours of 1 million factory workers is making many to think of quitting their jobs.

The reason behind the same is that less hourly pay is being got by them, which on their end is not satisfying them. However, the FLA’s aim was to reduce the number of accidents inside the factory in Shenzhen. Workers but are themselves not in support of the same.

They rather prefer working long along with overtime so that they may earn more, an unnamed worker from the company has affirmed.

Thus, CEO and president of the FLA Auret van Heerden said, “We are picking up concerns now on the microblogs about what's likely to happen as hours gets changed, and whether their incomes will be shaved as well”.
