Marmite to Strengthen Immune System And Memory
Marmite, a popular breakfast staple, has been found to be quite effective in strengthening the immune system for fighting against the staphylococcus bacteria, which causes MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus).
The revelation being done by Dr. Adrian Gombart, from Oregon State University, can act as a new weapon against the increasing MRSA cases. The study, which has also been published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation, has revealed that marmite is rich in niacin, which helps in providing strength to immune system.
"This could give us a new way to treat infections that can be deadly. It's a way to tap into the power of the innate immune system", said Gombart. He further affirmed that the product has a lot many health benefits.
It is rich in vitamin B12 and folic acid, which is said to be beneficial for strengthening long term as well as short term memory. In order to reach at the above given result, the study researchers were of the view that they have assessed 700 people, who were aged between 60 and 74 years old.
The group was divided in two, one group was asked to take placebo and other group was given folic acid. The test, which continued for two years, found that the group taking folic acid has shown better results on memory tests.
