Playing Piano Can Improve Memory, Say Researchers

A recent study has found that playing piano can help in improving memory of a person. According to the researchers of College London and Newcastle Universities, playing two notes of piano can help in improving the memory of a person.

For the study, the researchers conducted magnetic resonance imaging of professional piano players. The piano players had been playing two notes simultaneously for past few years. During the study, the researchers noted that the piano players’ brain is healthier as compared to others.

It has been found that significant changes in the hippocampus section of brain were noticed in the piano players. One of the researchers, Sundeep Teki was reported saying, “We already know that musical training can correlate with structural changes, but our group of professionals offered a rare opportunity to examine the ability of the brain to adapt over time to a very specialized form of listening”.

The findings of the researchers have been published in the renowned pages of journal Neuroscience. There are a few studies which have helped in understanding the changes taking place in the hippocampus. Further studies will be conducted to draw a concrete conclusion.
