As per a study, which has been published in the journal Nature, it has been revealed that calorie restriction routine is helpless when it is done with a motive to increase total life span. The research, which was going on from last 20 years, seems to have act as a myth buster for many people, who have been cutting out calories to live longer.

Lead author of the study Rafael de Cabo, who has been positioned as an experimental gerontologist at the National Institute on Aging, US, was of the view that calorie restriction is not a magic potion, which will gift longer life to people.

In order to reach at the above given result, the study researchers carried out an experiment on two sets of monkeys. The first group of monkeys included monkeys of age group between 1 and 14 and the second group of monkeys was between the age group of 16 to 23. Both the groups were given controlled diet and their comparison was being done with other two control groups.

The monkeys in the control group were fed normally. When compared, no difference was found in the life longevity of monkeys. “We report here that a CR regimen implemented in young and older age rhesus monkeys at the National Institute on Aging (NIA) has not improved survival outcomes”, said study researchers.
