Spanking is No Effective Way, Can Instead be Risky: Researchers Say

Spanking children is not at all apt way of punishing children for their wrong deeds, says Canadian Medical Association Journal. One of the most esteemed medical journals of the nation is now making appeals to parents as well as doctors to stop this practice, a recent report has revealed.

Though, the physical punishment by parents is legally allowed as well as considered as a corrective measure to bring children on the right path. The Criminal Code of Canada’s Section 43 is being strictly opposed by the journal.

Since, the same reads that in case the force used by parents does not exceed a reasonable thing under some situations, it is completely justified. John Fletcher, editor-in-chief, is of the opinion that improved parenting is not all about spanking and calling the police. Rather, the same can cause children to suffer severe problems later.

While suffering from aggression or emotional problems leading to alcohol use, they may sometimes also be a victim of mental illnesses, as per a study. Joan Durrant and Ron Ensom had focused for 20 years and found that physical punishment was no good way to make children behave properly.

Children are keen to explore new worlds of their own. Thus, Joan Durrant suggests, “Explain that when some things are broken, they can never be fixed”.
