As per a recent report, it has been revealed that people from now on would be allowed to build bigger extensions in houses, though for a temporary period, so as to get planning officers off their backs.
The step is a part of the government’s promise to bring a relaxation in the current rules. It is being said that for detached homes, people would be able to extend the extensions up to about eight metres. While for other homes, a maximum of six-metre expansion is being permitted.
However, the Local Government Association is not in favour of the same, the report has found. According to it, the planning system has no shortcomings and it is merely a myth that it is causing hindrance in house-building.
Even the group has revealed some figures of planning permission as evidence for the same. It says that there is a surfeit of 400,000 prospective homes, which have though received permission for planning, but are not built as yet.
But, it is being believed by the government that with the new move, the economy would see improvements. Thus, for the same reason, shops as well as offices are also being allowed to grow as far as their premises open out.
