Recreational Marijuana Use May Cause Testicular Cancer

A recent research has warned young men about a potentially dangerous form of testicular cancer -- non-seminoma tumors. It has been claimed by a team of researchers at the University of Southern California that those young men who consume marijuana are most likely to fall victim to this form of cancer.

Published today online in CANCER, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Cancer Society, the research has recommended men to keep a close look at the changes they are witnessing in their testicles and any alarming change must not be overlooked.

For the research, the team had examined the self-reported recreational drug use of 163 testicular patients, and found the connection between the use of recreational marijuana and likelihood of non-seminoma tumors.

"The truth is, the vast majority of men who develop testicular germ-cell tumors survive them. There's still a small proportion that don't. Those guys tend to have non-seminonas, unfortunately”, said Victoria Cortessis, Assistant Professor of preventive medicine at the Keck School of Medicine of USC in Los Angeles, and one of the study's authors.

Though the rate of such cancers in men is not alarming, it needs to be kept in mind that it could certainly pose a huge risk in case the use of recreational marijuana is not being checked out.
