International conservation groups have presented a list, which includes all 100 floras, fauna and fungi species, which are under most threat and an immediate action needs to be taken to safeguard these species.
The Zoological Society of London and the International Union for Conservation of Nature, revealed the list before the global conservation forum, commencing on the southern South Korean island of Jeju, on Tuesday.
The species included in the list survive in 48 different countries. A few of the species categorized include, Tarzan's chameleon, the spoon-billed sandpiper and the pygmy three-toed sloth.
The groups asserted that if urgent action is not implemented, then there are high chances that these species will no more exist, as they already are of no use to humans.
Experts suggest that is more efforts were made towards the conservation of these species, then will be possible to save them from getting extinct.
Professor Jonathan Baillie, director of conservation for the Zoological Society of London, said, “Donor community and conservation movement are leaning increasingly towards a ‘what can nature do for us’ approach, where species and wild habitats are valued and prioritized according to the services they provide”.
Baillie added that such an approach has made protection of such species not less than a challenge.
