Workers of Platinum Mines in Africa on Strike; Call for Wage Hike

From Sunday onwards, there will be a strike among Platinum-mine workers across the nation. Thousands of workers will be on strike, threatening to shoot up the disturbances that have been affecting Africa's largest economy since long.

Time has come to revolt back the havoc that South African government and its allied unions are struggling. To decide the plans of this strike, workers gathered at a soccer stadium that lies near to some of the country's main platinum mines.

While blaming the country's liberation party, the African National Congress, for discarding its political core, which majorly constitutes the poor working class, workers asked the authority to hike their wages to 16,070 rand ($1,950) a month and until the same is done, they will not get back to their work.

As said by Mametlwe Sebei, a leader of the platinum workers, "We are organizing for a mass strike Sunday to make sure profits don't come before people".

Some of the world's biggest mining companies are trying hard to bring down the rising tempers of their workers, but all in vain. The workers this time are stringent enough to fight for their rights.

On Wednesday, mine entrances at Anglo American Platinum, which is known as the world's top producer of the metal, were also blocked by the workers.
