Male Infant Circumcision Stirs up a Debate

Once again, the whole concept of male circumcision has caught the headlines as the American Academy of Paediatrics has highlighted its advantages. In 1990s, the male circumcision became a hot topic of debate and yet again it has gained attention.

According to the American Academy of Paediatrics, a male circumcision protects a person from being affected by urinary tract infection, penile cancer and sexually transmitted diseases. Two months back, the authorities of Germany cried over the need of doing away with the male circumcision.

The decision of getting the circumcision is left majorly upon the parents. Besides, they are also not supported financially for the circumcision. It is not for the first time when the brilliant heads have stirred a debate over the need of getting male infant circumcised.

For quite many years, the authorities have been discussing whether circumcision should be conducted when the males are infants or shall they be given a chance to decide themselves when they grow up. However, for some, circumcision is a ritual practice and therefore it should be carried on. Rabby Sruly Koval from University Heights said, “Circumcision is referred to as the ‘covenant of Abraham’. There’s something about this ritual which is very connected with history”.
