A recent report has uncovered that the Japanese government has though responded to strong antinuclear sentiment with its declaration of slow nuclear phase-out via a long-term energy plan. It is being said that it has fallen short of its commitment made earlier to make the country nuclear-free soon.
It has been found that the country has been following Germany’s moves in this regard of phasing out nuclear plants. However, such a decision was asked to be taken immediately following the Fukushima Daiichi crisis that was seen in the year 2011 in March. But, it has been declared on Friday that the country would be free of nuclear by 2040.
The energy and environmental committee affirmed, “We will use all possible political resources to realize the goal of having no nuclear plants operating by the end of the 2030s”.
As per the findings, a lot of backstage wrangling has fuelled the plan, which ignores warnings from corporate Japan that it could further worsen the battered manufacturing base of the nation.
But, opponents would still probably not agree with the plan since it is an earthquake-prone country. Besides, it predicts that a few idled plants have been brought back on line with time and thus nuclear-energy production would also rise.
