A latest research being taken out by a group of researchers from Murdoch Children's Research Institute, Melbourne, has found a genetic link between food allergies and children.
The study, which has been published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, has found that children who have inclination towards eczema are likely to develop food allergies.
Lead researcher Professor Katie Allen was of the view that genetic and environmental factors play a crucial role in the development of food allergies in children. In order to reach at the above given result, the study researchers assessed 700 infants.
Allen said they assessed the genetic link known as filaggrin. This gene link is said to be responsible for the development of eczema. Another thing being assessed by the researchers was the chances of the development of food allergy among children.
After assessing all the children, the study researchers reached at a conclusion that though children were at risk of developing food allergies through skin, they can counteract the same through the development of immune tolerance.
Allen said that there is a solution for the problem. They can make efforts to improve the skin of babies and in order to do so, they can keep babies hydrated among other ways.
