A recent report submitted by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has confirmed that the U. S. fishermen have made the largest seafood catch in the year 2011 since last two decades.
The confirmations have come from the agency on Wednesday, in which it has cleared that 2011’s seafood catch is being reported to be the largest catch of the professionals since 1994 last year with American commercial fishermen landing approx 10.1 billion pounds of fish and shellfish in 2011, which in total is valued at $5.3 billion.
With the calculations of the last catch, the officials have also confirmed an increase of 1.9 billion pounds and more than $784 million as compared to the figures of the year 2010.
Ms. Christine Patrick, a spokeswoman for the NOAA, said that the improvement in the volumes of catch is primarily due to the strengthening of the federal law on fisheries management that was done in the year 2006.
Moreover, she has also credited the improvement in real-time monitoring systems, which she said have allowed fishermen to stay within catch limits and perform better.
In the report, NOAA said this increase in product availability “was more than offset by a large increase in exports and a decrease in farmed catfish production”.
