Daily Consumption of Yogurt Lowers High Blood Pressure

Findings in a recent study suggest that people, who have been eating yogurt since a long time, are avoiding their chances of suffering from high blood pressure and also tend to have reduced systolic blood pressure, in comparison to those, who don’t consume yogurt.

The research presented before the American Heart Association's High Blood Pressure Research 2012 Scientific Sessions, proposed that including yogurt in the daily diet will not only be healthy, due to low calorific value, but will also serve as a major factor reducing the threat of high blood pressure.

Systolic blood pressure is the measure of the force exerted by blood against the artery walls, while the heart is pumping blood to different parts of the body. It is termed to be the highest level of measure in a blood pressure reading.

The study, carried out for 15 years, included over 2,000 volunteers, who were reported to be not suffering from high blood pressure, when the study was initiated. The volunteers were asked to fill out their intake of yogurt at three different intervals during the study.

Researchers said, “Study participants were 31 % less likely to develop high blood pressure if they ate at least one six-ounce cup of low-fat yogurt every three days, addition to systolic blood pressure increasing less”.
