There is a recall for fresh spinach in 15 states of the U. S. by the Kroger Co. Family of Stores. According to the store, their product many contain Listeria monocytogenes and therefore all consumers are asked to check the packaging before using.

Any of the Fresh Selections Tender Spinach in 10-ounce packages with an expiry date written as Sept. 16 and a UPC: 0001111091649 should be immediately returned or thrown away. No matter the product is in an open or unopened packaging, it has to be returned by customers to their local Kroger store. As said by store’s officials, a substitute or a full refund will be given to all the customers.

This product was supplied by NewStar Fresh Foods LLC. The stores that are included in this recall all over the 15 states are Kroger stores in Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, Georgia, Virginia, Alabama, South Carolina, North Carolina, central and eastern Tennessee and Michigan.

Others are Kroger, Pay Less, Owen's, Jay C, Scott's and Food 4 Less stores in Indiana, Illinois and eastern Missouri and Dillons, Baker's and Gerbes stores in Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska.

Fry's, Ralphs, Fred Meyer, QFC, Smith's, King Soopers, City Market and Food 4 Less/Foods Co. in California are a few stores that are operated by the company but are not included in this recall.
