Uganda Youngsters Indulging in Unsafe Sex

Though a lot new measures and efforts are being done to ensure that Uganda people adopt all precautionary measures to avert HIV, it has been found that youth is not taking the matter seriously.

It has been revealed through the National AIDS Indicator Survey that young and sexually active Uganda people have been indulging into risky sex. Among the surveyed people, only 36.2% women and 52.9% men aged between
20 and 24 years were found to be taking precautions.

The survey findings have questioned the country’s effort to curb the increasing HIV cases. Official figures were of the view that HIV percentage has increased from 6.4% to 7.3%. Through the survey, it was revealed that Uganda has focused on ‘ABC-plus’ model.

The model means taking precautions as well as to avoid unsafe sex. After coming across the rising number, the authorities concerned were of the view that they need to take out strategies in which they focus on encouraging young Uganda people to use condoms while having sex.

"The students should go for protected sex... It's the only way to reduce HIV prevalence rates in the country”, said David Kihumuro Apuuli, who is the director general of the Uganda AIDS Commission.
