Coastal Cleanup Day Sees Thousands of Volunteers Turning up

It was the 28th annual California Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday, when some thousand volunteers showed up to celebrate the same, as per revelations by a new report.

Including a Barbie doll, fake fingernails, Mexican beer bottles and a gavel as well as a broken baseball bat and a cat scratching post, there were some 2,500 pounds of debris on San Luis Obispo County beaches that the participants needed to pick up. Alongside, 207 pounds of recyclables were to be collected, says the report.

It has been found that some 847 volunteers gathered in Santa Barbara County as well, who explored some 23 streams and beaches. They picked up some 1,970 pounds of remnants along with 622 pounds of recyclables, comprising single-use plastic bags and cigarette butts with food wrappers.

As per the findings, in all, over 850 sites were attacked for cleansing. “This will be the first time organizers will measure for debris that may have been washed up as a result of last year’s devastating tsunami in Japan”, said Ecoslo’s program coordinator Kylee Singh.

Furthermore, it is being said that the Coastal Cleanup Day in association with Coastal Cleanup Day marked the first measurements of foreign trash also.
