In the name of reshaping its services, NHS North West London is thinking of closing Accident and Emergency departments in Hammersmith & Fulham, a recent report said.

A crowd of almost 500 people was to be seen in a town hall on Tuesday, wherein the NHS Trust defended its controversial decision of closing the wards at Charing Cross hospitals. Also, it presented its idea of downgrading the hospitals as local.

The multi-award winning actress of TV and stage Vanessa Redgrave, who was also a part of the audience, thus expressed her outrage against the decision. She said firmly that the decision was all unexpected and shocking and that her grandparents would have been distressed if they would have been alive.

The head of the Redgrave acting dynasty, 75, has lived in the borough for some 66 years. She was also supported by David Wingfield, who is Brook Green Medical Centre’s GP, and said that the proposals can risk many patients’ lives.

“The pace of change is going to be hectic and we face a whirlwind of a time. This borough would lose two A&E departments and that is disproportionate”, he was quoted as saying. However, chair of H&F Clinical Commissioning Group Dr. Tim Spicer still thinks that travel times would cut to three minutes and more lives would be saved.
