A threat detection system dubbed Cognitive Technology Threat Warning System (CT2WS) has been developed by the U. S. Army and DARPA, as per a recent report, which can read human brain signals.
It has been told that the new system goes straight to soldiers' brainwaves, thereby locating real threats, no matter the threats are from a crowded landscape or somewhere far away.
As per the findings, the system looks a little crazy like it would have been stripped from a terrible war movie. But, its working is amazing as a soldier’s EEG or electroencephalogram registers the brain signals and following the same, processes the same. Yes! The soldiers have the EEG strapped to their scalp.
CT2WS has been equipped with a camera of 120-megapixels, the report finds, which can capture its surroundings. The images captured are fed into a supercomputer later, which further runs cognitive visual processing algorithms. The aim is to find threats such as a camouflaged tank nozzle or a sniper scope.
Besides, a display wherein a soldier is placed interfaces the output, the team says. “The prototype system has demonstrated an extremely low false alarm rate, a detection rate in the low nineties, all while reducing the load on the operator”, says program manager Gill Pratt.
