Dexanabinol gives Hope for Advanced Cancer Treatment

A component named as dexanabinol found in cannabis-like drug is thought to be beneficial for patients suffering from advanced forms of cancer.

The research being taken out by a group of researchers from the University of Newcastle said that they are going to initiate early stage clinical trials.

Lead researcher Ruth Plummer was of the view, “The starting point for this trial was to map networks of proteins that appear to have a role in cancer, identify points at which these networks could be disrupted”.

He affirmed that the methodology they have adopted in the study is a novel approach, which is named as network pharmacology. While talking about the compound, Plummer affirmed that dexanabinol belongs to the family of cannabinoids. The compound is said to be quite beneficial, as it does not contain any sort of the psychological effects.

Though the compound is considered to be safe, they want to reassure the fact in the phase-1 trial. Plummer said that one of the main aims to carry out the phase-1 trial is to assess the probable negative and positive effects of the compound. In order to do the same, Plummer informed that they have included 45 patients.
