Sherrie Walter got a new ear attached to her arm after she was convinced by doctors that she would not get a temporary but a permanent ear, as per a recent report.

It has been found that the woman, 42, was strictly against a prosthetic ear, which needs to be carried every day. "The concept of having to tape something to my skin didn't feel like that was who I was. I could see my kids running, yelling, I have mommy's ear”, she used to say.

As per the findings, she had lost her ear while she was having cancer two years back. In 2010, she had discovered a sore in her ear as basal-cell carcinoma, a form of skin cancer. Though, she was not ready for a new ear, she was then told by her doctors at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore that she can get her ear developed of her own tissue.

The procedure includes removal of cartilage from the rib cage and the new ear is then located under the forearm’s skin to grow. It is a most complicated ear constructions in the whole US, the report says.

"We implanted the ear near the wrist and just let it live there so all the skin could grow”, said Dr. Patrick Byrne.
