Watermelon maintains Heart Health

Watermelon slice a day will keep heart disease at bay, is the finding of a study being taken out by a group of researchers from the Purdue University, US. The watery fruit is said to be quite beneficial in controlling weight as well as keep a check on cholesterol formation.

The study was being carried on mice. They were kept on the diet of this summery fruit and it was found that mice were able to reduce the level of low-density lipoprotein (LDL), which is said to be bad cholesterol.

Study researchers were of the view that they looked at the fruit and assessed it. They then found that the fruit is rich in chemical citrulline, which helps in providing a security to heart. The study, which has been published in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry, is a great option when it comes to treat cardiovascular health.

Co-author of the study Shubin Saha was of the view, "We were interested in citrulline because previous studies showed that it may lower blood pressure”. Saha further asserted that further study on the matter is needed, as they need to perform a study to know its molecular structure. People, who are allergic to watermelon, should consult their GPs.
