DARPA has been giving open challenge to anyone out there in the world with skills to develop software, one which would be required to take core robotic software capabilities to a next level. The contest is an online one and is open with online registration system as well.
As per the findings, it is the next phase of robotics challenge, which asks for cloud based software. The "Virtual Robotics Challenge" is a part of the four efforts by DARPA, which aim at development of an advanced robot.
The group has also listed skills that prove one's potential to develop a robot. It is being said that one should have expertise in software for robotic perception along with control and planning skills. Also, he should have expertise in physics-based games as well as simulations and simulations.
Behind the contest is a concept of the DRC Simulator, which would allow individuals with good knowledge to compete in the field of robotics development.
"The cloud-based nature of the simulator will allow greater innovation in robotics by doing away with expensive physical hardware and prototyping - barriers that keep otherwise capable developers out of robotics", the program manager for DRC Gill Pratt was quoted as saying.
