Ice Depletion Causing Problems to Pacific Walrus
Not a new topic to hear that climate change has been taking place. The only difference is that new species keep in getting added, which have been getting affected by the same.
Recently, the U. S. Geological Survey has found that they have evidence in which Pacific walrus will soon be included under the Endangered Species Act for being threatened species. It has been found that the specie has been changing its behaviour due to the decline in sea ice.
In order to reach at the above given conclusion, the experts followed the migratory movement of 251 walrus and that too from 2008 to 2011. They observed a new thing in their living pattern and that was these species were feeding near to land.
Experts also noticed that ice has declined a lot in the past six to seven years. In addition, it is said that there are a number of changes that these species have been witnessing. While citing some of them, it was found that climate change has led to an access to more availability of open water. With prevalence of more open waters, these species will see a number of humans and that too quite frequently and will also witness a number of human activities.
