Researchers develop Pineapple that tastes like Coconut

Not many will believe that pineapple can taste like coconut, but the news is true. A group of researchers from the Department of Agriculture, Australia, has accidentally developed a pineapple that tastes like coconut.

According to researchers, they were trying to develop a sweeter pineapple, but they came out with a pineapple tasting like a coconut. They have named the novel pineapple AusFestival.

Lead researcher Garth Senewski, who is a horticulturalist, said that they have been working on to develop a new pineapple for last 10 years. He continued by saying that they have been planning to plant pineapples for commercial sales and that too within next two years.

Senewski said that their creation can help in reducing ingredients that are needed to make piña colada, a drink. If he is not going wrong with the development then it can change the face of cocktail mixology.

To make the drink, coconut, pineapple juice and rum is needed, but with the use of the newly developed pineapples, they do not need to use coconuts. "Taste tests tell us that [it] is a winner - it has this lovely coconut flavor, which you won't find in any other pineapple in Australia", said Senewski to the Australian Broadcast Corporation.
