The prototype of a new spacesuit that is being developed for the astronauts looks similar to Buzz Lightyear setup. Engineers, who apparently got inspired from Toy Story, employed in building up of the new spacesuit are designing it keeping in mind to make it very comfortable for the astronauts. It has been equipped with neon green accents and has been made using latest technology and trade tricks.
The new spacesuit has a rear-entry hatch that helps astronauts to put it on, from the back. All they have to do it shut it from back after putting it on. It is still in testing phase and is name Z-1. The space agency said that astronauts that will go to Mars shall be wearing similar suits.
The engineers said that the rear entry design will help in minimizing the injuries that happen to astronauts. The spacesuits used were the same since 1992 and it's now after so many years that NASA has made attempts to redesign the suits to make them better.
"The shuttle EMU splits at the waist. Whereas with this suit, the subject crawls in through the back, and then we just shut the door", explained Amy Ross, one of the Engineers involved in development of the new suit. Z-1 shall be employed practically as soon as it clears the testing phase.
