Planet Resembling Earth Likely to be Discovered in 2013

Despite efforts in past years, no other planet resembling Earth has been discovered so far.

With the help of many powerful telescopes, scientists have been tracking millions of planets in the space. They have found many such planets that are similar to Earth in size, temperature or distance from sun but none of them was exactly same as our planet.

Telescopes employed for the purpose, such as Kepler discover a new planet almost every day but they have not been successful in finding one that can be said as exactly similar to Earth. However, the scientist involved in the research said that in 2013, possibility of the discovery is quite bright.

Kepler space telescope was launched four years ago and since then it has tracked more than two thousand planets. A research said that there are over five million planets like Earth in space and it will take enough time to reach them. The High Accuracy Radial velocity Planet Searcher (HARPS) is one of the technologies employed into the most interesting search in space.

“HARPS should be able to find the most interesting and closer Earth twins. A combination of its sensitivity and long-term observations is now paying off”, said Abel Mendez, who runs the Planetary Habitability Laboratory at the University of Puerto Rico at Arecibo.
