It seems that there is need for medical fraternity to take concrete measures to combat the scar of malaria. It has been known that there are as many as 250 million people affected by the same every year and this is what has made it highly imperative to devise new ways to develop drugs which could combat malaria.

It has been told that malaria is caused by mosquitoes which are carrying the Plasmodium parasite. The medical fraternity is in need to find out ways to beat the Plasmodium species which are becoming resistant to currently available drugs. This is what has made it highly urgent o develop drugs which are effective enough to rein in rising number of cases.

On the same lines, a recent study has claimed that they have managed to find out how enzymes in the malaria parasite Plasmodium synthesize vitamins present. The team from Germany and the UK has managed to find out the process behind the same which could make significant progress in finding out the best possible drugs for malaria.

It was told that the malarial enzymes have the tendency to produce an active form of Vitamin B6 known as "pyridoxal 5'-phosphate", or PLP. The team included electron microscopy to probe the 3D crystal structure of the assembly from individual proteins.

"The structural studies explain how these vital enzymes are activated and show the substrate of vitamin B6 biosynthesis bound to give insights into the chemistry of PLP biosynthesis”, said Dr. Ivo Tews, a Lecturer in Structural Biology at the University of Southampton, who along with the team conducted the study.

The team also managed to find out an uncalled for organization of enzyme complexes into fibres. It is being believed that this study has been able to find out ways to develop specific inhibitors that could activate enzyme sites, or the assembly of proteins.
