It has been recently revealed in a report that predictions may be made about volcanic eruptions that are likely to occur in the next few decades. The researchers have conducted tests on rock crystals from the Santorini Island in Greece, and it has been found that there can be predictions made about the development of the fast developing magma under the Earth’s crust, with the use of many modern methods available these days.

This shall be inferred with the gas produced by volcanic eruptions that is potent in making huge changes in the climate. This research has been published in the Nature journal.

The scientists are of the view that these volcanic eruptions can be predicted because they tend to leave a deep mark on the surface of the Earth in the form of a depression, which is also known as caldera.

These are the types of dormant volcanoes which can stay hidden, resting under the Earth for hundreds of years. This new study is of the view that if these can be predicted sooner, people might tend to be prepared for them as well.

“When volcanoes awaken and when the magma starts to ascend to the surface, cracking rock as it does, it sends out signals," You get seismic signals, you get deformation of the surface, increasing gas emission at the surface - and this can be detected”, said lead researcher Prof. Tim Druitt of France's Blaise Pascal University.

There is a need for more research and development to be done in this regard, so that various effective ways of finding out about future volcanic eruptions can be found.
