UMass Memorial Slammed With $770,000 Fine

Unsolicited marketing strategies of Caitlin Raymond International Registry and UMass Memorial Health Ventures Inc. have forced the authorities to impose a fine of $770,000. It has been informed that bone marrow registry, and medical laboratory company hired fashion models for attracting the donors.

The strategy was adopted by the company during donor drives at malls, festivals and sporting ventures. Some of the donors drive activities were carried out at Gillette Stadium and the Mall of New Hampshire. The steps by the company have attracted lots of criticism from the officials concerned.

The officials asked the company for apology and also levied heavy fine. The whole incident took place in December 2010. A final verdict on the case has asked both the subsidiaries of UMass Memorial Health Care to pay out-of-pocket payments, which they collected previously for donor testing.

They have also been asked to pay $500,000 to the State Government. The money is said to be utilized on improving health care services of the sector. A fine of $20,000 has been slapped to the company for alleged marketing strategies.

It has further been informed that the UMass Memorial overcharged the people for testing bone marrow. The Attorney General of New Hampshire, Michael Delaney, said that the company has jeopardized with the public trust by levying high charges.

It has been informed that in 2007, the UMass Memorial laboratories was famous for caring out large number of DNA tests. Since then, the number of donor testing for the bone marrow increased manifold. It is believed that the UMass Memorial has taken the advantage of the public trust to fill its pockets.

Trust once lost is hard to get back. It would be unveiled later on whether or not the UMass Memorial proves successful in winning the trust back.
