In a recent report, it has been revealed that a new kind of crocodile skin has been discovered by the researcher from the University of Missouri. The name of this prehistoric sort of skin is the ‘shield croc’, and it is the skin of an ancient crocodile species.

It is a sort of thick skinned shield on the heads of these crocodiles, and tends to protect the head from hurt or injury.

The researchers are of the view that discovering this skin is a breakthrough, and it shall soon be able to help in finding ways and measures of preserving the crocodiles from getting extinct. These ‘shield crocs’ are from the oldest form of crocodiles that have been discovered in Africa.

It was further revealed by Nick Gardner, one of the authors of the study, from the Marshall University, that the crocodiles must’ve used them in the form of fish traps. They would trap their prey with the help of this complex structure. This is one of the most exquisite killing machines created by God, which was so powerful that it was enough to crush its prey.

“It is possible that it lay in wait until an unsuspecting fish swam in front of it. Then, if it was close enough, Shieldcroc simply opened its mouth and ate the fish without a struggle, eliminating the need for strong jaws”, he added further.

These prehistoric finds have definitely thrown light on the types of doors it might help in opening towards helping the scientists discover about the past. It will also help in further forming new measures and ways of helping to preserve the species present now, which is nearing extinction.
