Day by day, it seems that our scientists are stepping closer to Mayan Civilization and causes behind its decline.

Findings of a team of scientists are pointing towards the possibilities of decline of Mayan civilization due to a mild drought, which they say, could have possibly occurred because of global warming. The above findings have been recently released suggesting that the difficulties of Mayan reached its peak in the years, when if faced drought, which could have lead to its decline.

Mayan, known as the most advanced civilization of the Americas, has till date remained a mystery for our scientists and researchers, who are since many long years trying to find out the cause of decline of the Great Mayan civilization, which existed almost a millennium ago.

But it seems that our scientists are slowly stepping closer to reveal more truths about the demise of one of Earth’s greatest civilization. In their new study, researchers are claiming that a mild drought may have collapsed the Mayan civilization as they see a number of contributing factors like an increase in scarcity of water etc, behind their conclusions.

The above findings have been published in the journal Science in which the scientists from Mexico’s Yucatan Center for Scientific Research and the University of Southampton have clearly mentioned in their statements that after analyzing samples (collected from near the Mayan capital), it is becoming clear that the citizens likely faced harsh conditions like drought before their collapse.

The facts became clearer when scientists examined lake and cave sediment in the surrounding areas of major Mayan cities and noted that regions reflect 40 percent decline in annual precipitation in the amount of rainfall.

“The data suggest that the main cause was a decrease in summer storm activity”, said co-author Mr. Eelco Rohling of the University of Southampton.
