Rick Santorum Expects Secret Service Protection On Tuesday

A recent report has revealed that former House Speaker Newt Gingrich's campaign has made a request last week to provide Secret Service protection to Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum, as per a statement by a spokesperson for the campaign.

It has been found that the Secret Service protection is provided to each and every presidential nominee of a major party. Also, the protection is sometimes provided earlier to the nominees in case a request made by a campaign is approved early by the Homeland Security Department.

The report has unfolded that Businessman Herman Cain had been provided with the Secret Service protection in the month of November last year. However, he had left the race late in December. Also, Mitt Romney, a former Massachusetts Gov. and a close competitor of Santorum, has already got the protection since Feb. 1.

The campaign has now been expecting that Rick Santorum would also get the Secret Service protection by Tuesday, if the request is approved. It has been told that the Secret Service protection is allowed only to those candidates by Federal law who meet certain standards such as public prominence that is calculated with the aid of polls and fundraising.

As per the findings of the report, Rick Santorum is a deserving candidate and therefore, the campaign as well as the republican himself has been expecting the protection to be given by the Security Department on Tuesday. It is being said that the campaign officials also spoke on the condition of anonymity in order to have a discussion on sensitive security matters.

After requesting Homeland Security Department to provide details about the protection, he said, "While he had been driving around most of this campaign in a truck with one other person ... we are in a different phase and ... we are in that discussion right now".
