Scientists Study How Human Brain Evolved

It was found by the scientists that mice who were provided with once-discounted class of human brain showed excellent memory and higher learning abilities than others. Scientists during a study figured out that human brain evolution was caused by astrocytes.

These are one of the several types of glia present in the cells with neurons inside our nervous system. These were earlier thought to provide nourishment to the neurons but now it was discovered that these are used for vital brain functions.

"It would be interesting to see if they get the same effects by engrafting chimpanzee or macaque glia," adds evolutionary neuroanatomist Todd Preuss of the Yerkes National Primate Research Center at Emory University in Atlanta.

Scientists are very excited to know that human astrocytes have the capability to enhance human brain functions and thus when these were genetically induced inside the brain of the mice, they showed improved learning skills and higher brain functions.

Scientists also believe that if they can reprogram human astrocytes then they can improve the human functions and takes it to a new level.

However, many scientists do not want to test it on animals as this will create controversy and thus they want to continue research just to make it informative.
