Harmful Metal in Lipsticks can Cause Major Health Concerns: Study

As per a new research study done by researchers from Berkeley's School of Public Health, University of California, most common of the lipsticks and lip glosses contained metals and some of them at such concerning rates which can raise potential health concerns. The findings got published online today in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives.

Although, prior studies have indicated the presence of metals in cosmetics, still, the recent study captured the attention as it has estimated the risk by detecting the metal concentration in the cosmetics and the daily intake of those metals by its users, and then comparing these ratios with the present health guidelines.

Researchers from Berkeley's in this study reviewed 32 different lipsticks and lip glosses that are commonly available in departmental and drug stores. They didn't mention the list of products they bought but they mentioned the cost they spent on buying those products which came out between $5.59 and $24.

Researchers looked for dangerous metals present in those cosmetics and found heavy metals like cadmium, chromium, aluminum and manganese. Co-author of the study, S. Katharine Hammond informs its users that if they keep on using these products, they are prone to various major health risks and also suggest decreasing its usage to least possible.
