Californian Teenager is Brain Dead after Undergoing Tonsils Removal Surgery

A 13-year-old Californian girl went into brain dead state after she underwent for tonsils removal surgery. Jahi McMath underwent the surgery called tonsillectomy, but she suffered complication during her recovery procedure.

Jahi's mother Nailah Winkfield said that she made her daughter to undergo the surgery thinking that it will improve her sleep apnea condition. Nailah and Jahi's grandmother Sandra Chatman were present when surgery took place.

Nailah was of the view that Jahi started bleeding from nose and mouth, but staff did not pay attention to the deteriorating condition of Jahi. She continued by affirming that the hospital staff gave her a cup so that she can collect clots coming out of Jahi's mouth.

"I was the last one to see Jahi... I said, 'Somebody help my baby please!' And they came in and starting working on her", said Chatman. Doctors said that Jahi did not have a heart rate, but she was resuscitated and was on ventilator.

She remained critical on next day also and at 2 am of the third day, doctors have told that Jahi is having swelling in brain and she was declared brain dead. Jahi's family has decided that they will not put off the ventilator till her heart is beating.
