Samsung releases several new updates for Gear Fit, Gear 2, and Gear 2 Neo
In a Wednesday announcement, bigwig device maker Samsung said that it has released a number of new software updates for its Gear Fit fitness band and its two smartwatches - Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo.
Samsung said that the new updates which have been brought to the Gear Fit, Gear 2, and Gear 2 Neo are largely based on "consumer feedback."
The new updates - which started rolling out for US users on Wednesday - chiefly include a more accurate pedometer, sleep mode, and heart rate monitor. As a result of the updates, the pedometer now has the capability to begin the count of steps automatically; and it also and allows for higher goals as well as a more convenient data transfer process.
Moreover, in the updated sleep mode for the Gear line of wearable devices, the screen wake-up feature has been disabled. As such, users can now wear their device while sleeping, without the bright screen waking them up.
The Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo smartwatches - for which Samsung dropped the `Galaxy' name in February - already boast a horde of standalone features, together with the ability to act as a companion to a Samsung smartphone. The smartwatches run on Samsung's own Tizen operating system, instead of the Google Android OS.
The Gear Fit fitness band was also launched by Samsung in February, along with Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo. The Gear Fit is a slim fitness band which features a full-color screen.
